Team Paradise Sailing is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2005 by Magnus Liljedahl, the Olympic gold medalist, and accredited by US Sailing as a Community Sailing Center. It operates on Biscayne Bay from the Coconut Grove waterfront, in the middle of Miami’s densest concentration of sailing organizations.

Its mission is access. Team Paradise specializes in adaptive sailing, getting people with physical and cognitive disabilities onto the water in purpose-rigged keelboats, and runs dedicated programs for youth and for veterans alongside its US Sailing Basic Keelboat instruction. The point is that a spinal-cord injury, a wheelchair, or a first-timer’s nerves are not reasons to stay ashore.

Because it’s a nonprofit community center rather than a commercial school, much of the sailing is subsidized, volunteer-supported, and open to sailors who would never walk into a private club. That is exactly the gap it was built to fill.
