The CGSC Instructional Center is the formal teaching arm of Coconut Grove Sailing Club, a nonprofit running US Sailing–certified courses on Biscayne Bay. The club itself dates to 1946, and its teaching program has grown up alongside it: decades of putting new sailors onto Biscayne Bay.

The center teaches the US Sailing keelboat pathway (Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, Bareboat Cruising, and Coastal Navigation), so an adult can start as a never-ever and work through to chartering a cruising boat. Because it sits inside a large community club with a mooring field and a teaching fleet, graduates can keep sailing on club boats rather than hitting a wall after the certification.

A youth program runs alongside the adult courses, moving kids from first sails into dinghies and keelboats on the same protected Coconut Grove water that has produced generations of Biscayne Bay racers.
