City-owned sailing center at Demens Landing, operated under agreement with the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. Hosts youth and adult programs, adaptive sailing initiatives, and regional regattas, the city's public-access counterpart to SPYC.
The St. Petersburg Sailing Center is the city’s public-access sailing hub at Demens Landing on the downtown waterfront, with direct access to Tampa Bay. St. Petersburg built the current center in 1977, and the site has been home to novice sailors and expert racers since the early 1940s; it operates under agreement with the St. Petersburg Yacht Club as the public-facing counterpart to the private club next door.
Programs run year-round and span every level. Youth camps and the junior race team share the water with adult learn-to-sail courses taught on the center’s fleet of Ideal 18 keelboats, and members can rent boats and sail the bay without owning one, low-cost access that a private club can’t match.
The center is also a leader in adaptive sailing, with accessible docks, purpose-rigged boats, and a partnership with Warrior Sailing that brings wounded and disabled veterans onto the water. The facility regularly hosts regional regattas, classes, and educational programs.

Private bay-front club on Bird Key in Sarasota. The clubhouse was demolished in fall 2025 and is being rebuilt on the same footprint, raised to meet FEMA standards; the club expects to open it in December 2026. Marina and tennis courts stay open to members and reciprocal guests.
