    Thursday Night Races

Long-standing casual one-design and handicap racing on Hillsborough Bay, open to anyone regardless of club affiliation.

Davis Island Yacht Club is a member-owned club at the south end of Davis Islands, the man-made islands off downtown Tampa, with its docks opening straight onto Hillsborough Bay. It runs lean and racing-first: no golf course or resort trappings, just a clubhouse, a hoist, and one of the busiest one-design calendars on Tampa Bay.

The club’s signature is the Thursday Night Races, a long-standing casual one-design and handicap series that is open to anyone regardless of club affiliation, a rare front door onto competitive bay sailing for non-members. Beyond that, DIYC hosts a dense schedule of one-design regattas, including a multi-event J/70 winter series and keelboat events like the KeelCup, with active Melges 24, J/70, and Flying Scot fleets.

Youth sailing runs through the Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation, a robust junior program that takes kids from first sails through the race team and feeds the same competitive fleets the adults sail.

Davis Island Yacht Club is private and member-owned, with reciprocal privileges for visiting yacht-club members, though its open Thursday-night racing means you don’t need to be a member to get on the starting line.
