Gulf Shore is a 501(c)(3), founded in 2015 as “Learn to Sail” and run by volunteers from the Bayfront Center on Punta Gorda’s waterfront, with Charlotte Harbor, the biggest protected teaching water in southwest Florida, off the seawall. There is no certification ladder here: instruction is US Sailing-certified at the instructor level, and the product is competence, not a card.

Adult lessons run private, four hours on the water with one instructor and at most two students, on dinghies and small keelboats up to about twenty feet, or aboard your own boat. The youth side is the bigger operation: week-long summer camps for ages eight and up on a fleet of FJs, Optimist-style SailQubes, Lasers, and American 14s, with 2026 sessions selling out months ahead.

The nonprofit machinery is the distinctive part: scholarships so a kid sails regardless of family budget, a boat-donation program feeding the fleet, and SafeSport compliance for every volunteer. For Punta Gorda families, this is the community on-ramp; the ASA and NauticEd schools around Charlotte Harbor handle the certificate-chasers.
